|Abstract:||The collection consists of the original manuscript, galley proofs, and printed book of a history covering one hundred and fifty years of the First United Methodist Church of Monroe, Georgia. The author, Paul Holmes Paschal, was appointed in 1972 to write this church history and spent most of 1973 in the process of writing and compiling information with the result that the book was published in 1974. The book is illustrated and contains biographical information on the ministers who served. The full title of the published book is "This trail of splendor and glory: one hundred fifty years of ministry (1824-1974)."|
The First Methodist congregation started in Monroe, Georgia, in 1824. They held their first one-room class and meeting house by 1825. From 1825 to the present day, the Church has had four buildings. In 1958, Bishop Arthur J. Moore dedicated the present structure. Paul Paschal was commissioned to write a history of the First United Methodist Church in 1972; it was published in 1974.
