Biographical/Historical Note

Boiling Spring is an unincorporated community in Alleghany County, Virginia.

Scope and Content Note

One contract (copy) between the Board of School Trustees of Boiling Spring, Allegheny [sic] County, West Virginia and J. N. Arnott to teach school for five months at a salary of $30.00 per month. Terms, length of school day and record keeping are spelled out. Fines are to be levied if reports are not in on time. Mr. Arnott was also responsible for making the fires and sweeping the floors of the school house, or causing these chores to be done.
