Biographical/Historical Note

The original Vilmorin-Andrieux collection was approximately 3,500 volumes that comprised the library of the commercial seed and plant firm named for two distinguished botanists, Pierre d'Andrieux (botanist to Louis XV) and Philippe Victoire Leveque de Vilmorin. The firm, which dates back into the 18th century, was operated into the 20th century by descendants of the founders who continued to build this rich collection. The collection is international in scope and consists mainly of scientific and agricultural publications.
