Biographical/Historical Note

John (Jack) Puryear (1822-1907) was born in Athens (Ga.), the son of John and Lucy Smith Puryear. After graduation from UGA in 1841 or 1843, he and his brother William Marcellus moved to Walker County (Ga.) where they remained. He married Nancy Oxford and they had seven children.
