John Richard Fain (1873-1944), Professor of Agronomy and Head of the Department of Agronomy, University of Georgia, from 1907-1938. Born in Jefferson County, Tennessee, he received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee in 1900, and an honorary doctoral degree from the University of Georgia in 1921. After retiring he moved back to Jefferson City, Tennessee, until his death in 1944.
