Anthony A. Malizia joined Snapper Power Equipment (producer of lawn care equipment and formerly known as McDonough Power Equipment) in 1950 as a field salesman. He worked his way up through the positions of sales manager, vice president, and vice chairman. In 1975 he became president and chief operating officer, and in 1980, chairman and chief executive officer. He retired in 1990.
Scope and Content Note
The collection consists primarily of material related to Malizia's career with Snapper Power Equipment. Box 1, consisting mainly of clippings and other printed material, also includes appointment books, financial papers, letters, and other business related material. Boxes 2 and 3 contain photographs and slides showing Malizia involved in day to day business activities, dealer meetings, trade shows, conventions, banquets, and also Snapper Day at Atlanta Braves baseball games. Photographs also include Malizia with various celebrities including Gerald Ford, Carl Sanders, and Ted Turner. In addition there is a set of photographs and slides which document the placing of the first Snapper mower (built in 1950) in the Smithsonian Institution. The slides are also of family vacation trips to Florida, the Caribbean, South America, and Europe. Box 4 includes such items as film and audio tape, awards, and Snapper memorabilia. There is also one oversize folder which includes a poster about electrocoating and a photographs showing Malizia in the fifties with an early model of the Snapper mower.
Organized into seven series: business-related material, clippings, financial records and correspondence, printed material, photographs, slides, and oversize objects and emphemera.
