Company F, 38th Georgia was commanded by J.C. Thornton and was organized October 17, 1861. Company G, 38th Georgia was commanded by George Eberhart and was organized March 4, 1862. Company H, 38th Georgia was commanded by R.T. Eberhart and was organized March 5, 1861.
The collection consists of microfilm of the muster rolls of four companies recruited and organized in Elbert County, Ga., in 1861-1862. The four companies are Company F, Regiment of the 15th Brigade; and Companies F, G and H, Regiments of the 38th Brigade. Rolls were hand-written on printed forms. Each roll is several pages and may contain the man's name, time of enlistment, rank, when and where wounded, died when and how, and names of battles in which engaged.
