Biographical/Historical Note

Gordon Luther Reynolds was the son of Stephen and Anna Reynolds of Granville, New York. He graduated from Granville High School and entered the U.S. Army in 1943. After being discharged in 1945 he married Ann Preston Briscoe. They made their home in Monroe, Georgia where Gordon worked as a builder and carpenter until his death in 1968. He is buried in Rest Haven Cemetery on the Briscoe plot.

Ann Preston Briscoe was born June 2, 1917, in Monroe, Georgia to the late Pierce Nowell and Blanche Landers Briscoe. She graduated from Monroe High School and Monroe Business School. Ann was office secretary in her father's company, P. N. Briscoe Cotton Company for a number of years. She died on March 1, 1991 following a series of strokes and is buried in Rest Haven Cemetery in Monroe.


Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of 146 letters from Gordon Reynolds to Ann Briscoe. They were written between June, 1944 and June, 1945 while Gordon Reynolds was in the U.S. Army. There are also eleven letters from Sgt. Ted A. Cerwin, PFC Francis Casey, and Sgt. John "Jack" S. Crouch to Ann Briscoe.
