Abstract: | The collection mainly consists of correspondence of James William Lassiter from 1938-1945. The bulk of the correspondence (1942-1945) contains letters written by Lassiter while serving as a supply officer with the 25th Air Depot Group from his assignments in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Guam. Written to his parents, Elwood G. and Georgia Salter Lassiter of Covington (Newton County, Ga.), the letters discuss life on board ship, his duties, war news, and some discussion of Georgia politics. The collection also contains correspondence to Lassiter from his parents and brother Luke, both during the war and while Lassiter was a student at the University of Georgia (1938-1939). These letters contain information on family. |
