|Abstract:||The collection consists of papers of Sterling W. Collier from 1968-1969. The papers include correspondence, clippings, photographs, and military orders relating to Collier's service in Vietnam. In the correspondence written to his parents, Collier describes his assignment to the 1st Air Cavalry, Vietnam, his duties, camp life, contact with the North Vietnamese, fighting involving his unit, casualties, and troop movements. After Collier's March 1969 assignment to ammunition guard duty with the 52nd Infantry, his letters focus on his plans upon returning to the United States, the psychological effects of the war and how it has changed him, religion, and camp life.|
Sterling W. Collier, soldier, served with the 1st Air Cavalry, later with Company D of the 52nd Infantry Division in Vietnam, and resided in Decatur, Georgia.
