Biographical/Historical Note

Sharon Lynn Webb, Georgia science fiction author and resident of Blairsville, Georgia. Webb was born in Tampa, Florida on February 29, 1936, the daughter of William Wesley Talbott and Eunice Geraldine Tillman. On February 6, 1956, she married W. Bryan Webb. Their children were Wendy, Jerri, and Tracey.

From 1953 to 1956, Webb was a student Florida Southern College. She studied at the University Miami in 1962. In 1972, she earned her associate degree in Nursing from the Miami-Dade School Nursing. During this period (from 1960 to 1966), she worked as a freelance writer. She was an RN for the South Miami Hospital from 1972 to 1973 and for Union General Hospital, Towns County Hospital, Blairsville, Georgia from 1973 to 1981.

Webb is the author of RN (1981), Earthchild (1982), Earth Song (1983), Ram Song (1984), Adventures of Terra Tarkington (1985), Pestis 18, 1987, The Halflife (1989), and over 40 short stories. She is a member of the Author's Guild/League and Science Fiction Writers of America where she served as south/central director and as a member of the board directors. (Who's Who on the Web, retrieved February 16, 2010)

Robert Jordan enjoyed success in two areas of fantasy writing: as a writer of novels in the continuing saga of the popular sword-and-sorcery character Conan the Barbarian and as the creator of the "Wheel of Time" series, set in an elaborate fantasy world. Speaking of Jordan's work on the Conan books, Wendy Bradley wrote in the St. James Guide to Fantasy Writers that "his additions to the best-known of all sword-and-sorcery sagas are vigorous, lusty, and full of excellent scene setting." Of the "Wheel of Time" series, Bradley reported that "this saga is turning into a really impressive piece of work." Roland Green, writing in Booklist, called the series a "major fantasy epic."
