Luna Thomason Holcomb, born in 1891 in Texas, became interested in genealogy when she wanted to join the Daughters of the American Revolution. During the 1930's and 1940's, she traveled over much of the South, wrote anyone who might have information, and hired researchers to help her. She started with the Ingram family (her paternal grandmother), but also recorded all connecting names. Mrs. Holcomb's date of death is unknown. Although Mr. Dyer states 1940, there are letters written to and from her as late as 1950.
The collection consists of genealogical materials gathered by Luna Holcomb and sorted through by her distant relative Griffin Chesser with the help of the genealogist Watson Dyer. The major part of the collection concerns the family names Ingram, Thomason, and Holcomb, but there are many other names included. There are many rough notes with several family names on one page. Some of the notes are placed with the typed copies. Many of the pages of correspondence and notes have been separated since the original research was done, and are now incomplete. Each family name includes any related correspondence, because much genealogical information is included in many of the letters. In addition to research material and correspondence, the collection includes clippings, names and addresses of researchers, and research reference sources. The collection also contains maps of several states in regards to family land holdings.
Arranged in alphabetical order by family name.
