|Abstract:||The collection consists of a scrapbook kept by John McIntosh Kell and his wife Blanche Munroe Kell containing materials relating to the Confederate States of America and Kell's service on the Confederate Navy ships, the Alabama and the Sumter. It is primarily postwar. Items include correspondence, printed material, newspaper clippings, engravings, photographs, Kell genealogy, and a list of casualties on the Alabama.|
John McIntosh Kell (1823-1900), son of John and Margery Spalding Baillie Kell of Darien, Georgia, married Julia Blanche Munroe of Macon, Georgia. During the Civil War, Kell served as an officer in the Confederate Navy. After the war, he served as Georgia's Adjutant-General from 1886 until his death in 1900.
