Biographical/Historical Note

Charles Jones Martin was a young soldier in World War I who served from 1916 to 1919. He trained in Texas and was briefly stationed at Fort McPherson in Georgia. He was then sent overseas to France. Before his service, he received a certificate from the University of Georgia via the State College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts in 1913. He and his family wrote each other frequently.


Scope and Content Note

The collection consists primarily of letters from Charles Jones Martin, Jr. to his family back home while he was overseas in World War I. The letters range from his time training in the States, to being in the service in France, to returning to America. He frequently wrote letters home to his father, mother, sister, and other individuals.

Other items include numerous photographs, official documents, postcards, a certifcate from the University of Georgia in 1913, etc.
