The Kenneth Coleman: Dictionary of Georgia Biography collection consists of papers relating to the planning, editing, publication, etc. of the Dictionary of Georgia Biography. Published in 1983 by the University of Georgia Press, the Dictionary was the idea of Mills B. Lane IV as a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the state of Georgia. Kenneth Coleman and Charles Stephen Gurr of the University of Georgia became editors and worked on the project until its publication. This collection includes Dr. Coleman's papers, correspondence and a manuscript of the dictionary.
Series 1. Authors contains information on authors of the biographies as well as correspondence between Dr. Coleman and the authors.
Series 2. Manuscript contains a complete manuscript of the Dictionary which was edited further by Coleman and Gurr.
Series 3. Subject Files contains lists of persons included in the Dictionary divided into categories such as politicians, women, blacks, etc. Also in this section are a few student papers submitted in Dr. Coleman's history classes.
