Biographical/Historical Note

The mission of the Department of Veterans Service is to serve the some 700,000-plus veterans residing in Georgia, their dependents and survivors in all matters pertaining to veterans benefits. The State Board of Veterans Service recommends policy, procedure and work projects to the Commissioner, and through him controls overall Department policy. The Department's mission falls into two basic tasks: informing the veterans and their families about veterans' benefits; and directly assisting and advising veterans and their families in securing the federal and state benefits to which they are entitled. - Georgia Department of Veterans Service,2094,26646926_26692147,00.html (Retrieved November 23, 2009)
