Biographical/Historical Note

Ellison Van Hoose (1868 Murfresboro, Tenn - 1936 Houston, Tex.) grew up in Gainesville, Ga. where his father was a Baptist minister and brother, A. W. Van Hoose was president of Brenau College. He studied voice in New York, Rome, Paris and sang with the Metropolitan Opera and Chicago Opera and was elected to membership in the American Academy of Teachers of Singing.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of letters from Mrs. A. W. Van Hoose, widow of the brother of Ellison Van Hoose and Mrs. Elizabeth Van Hoose Glover giving biographical information about Ellison Van Hoose. Included is a copy of an obituary resume of Ellison Van Hoose's life from a Houston, Texas paper and an autographed photograph of Ellison Van Hoose.
