|Abstract:||The collection consists of correspondence from Elijah A. Brown of Athens, Georgia, to his parents Joseph Emerson and Elizabeth Grisham Brown, from April - May, 1875. The letters discuss school, teachers, churches, and ministers in Athens. An additional, undated, letter to Elizabeth Brown from Henry Holcombe Tucker discusses Tucker's election as chancellor of the University of Georgia.|
Elijah Alexander Brown (the son of Governor Joseph E. Brown (1821-1894) and and Elizabeth Grisham Brown) was born in Canton, Ga. September 4, 1857 and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity and Phi Kappa Society. He married Henrietta Law McBride (d. 1896), daughter of Colonel Andrew J. McBride, in 1894. Brown had two children: Frances (1895-1896) and Elijah Alexander (b. 1896). For more information, see his .
