Abstract:The collection consists of an account book of Thomas Faulkner from 1854-1875. The bulk of the book includes accounts for workers (slaves) on Faulkner's plantation (1858-1875) which contain the date, person's name, number of days worked, purchases, and price. The book also contains entries for the Hall County Court (July, 1854 - January, 1857) giving date, names of plaintiff and defendant, and resolution of case including amount owed.

Biographical/Historical Note

Thomas Faulkner of Hall County, Georgia, was a planter born in Georgia on 19 February 1830. He was the son of Benjamin Faulkner(1805-1892) and Martha Bendice Allred Faulkner(1808-1891) and married Mary Ann Grant(1836-1907). He died on 20 February 1908 and was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hall County.
