Charles Delucena Meigs (1792-1869), physician, son of Josiah and Clara Meigs. Married Mary Montgomery in 1815. Their son Montgomery Cunningham Meigs (1816-1892), engineer, married Louisa Rodgers daughter of John and Minerva Denison Rodgers.
The collection consists of papers of the Meigs family of Philadelphia (Pa.) and the Rodgers family of Washington (D.C.) from 1825-1866. The papers contain correspondence (1825-1866) of Charles C. Meigs mainly to his wife Mary Montgomery Meigs and to his son Franklin B. Meigs who was living in Hong Kong (1847-1848); letters (1846-1852) from Mary Montgomery Meigs also to her son, Franklin in Hong Kong; letters (1848-1852) from Montgomery C. Meigs mostly to his mother Mary Montgomery Meigs; letters from Lousia R. Meigs (1843-1853) in Rouses Point (N.Y.) and Detroit (Mich.) to her mother Minerva Denison Rodgers in Washington, D.C.; and letters (1843-1844) from Minerva Denison Rodgers to Ann Minerva Rodgers (Macomb) in Detroit. The correspondence mostly discusses family matters and social life.
