Biographical/Historical Note

David Crenshaw Barrow Sr. (1815-1899), planter, resided in Oglethorpe County and Athens, Georgia. Married Sarah Pope (d. 1855), daughter of Middleton Pope. Their children included David Crenshaw, James Middleton Pope, Thomas A., Clara Elizabeth, Ella Patience (Spalding), and Lucy M. (Cobb).

Patience Barrow married Bourke Spalding in 1874.


Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of letters written by Patience Precious Barrow at the Young Ladies Institute to her brother David Crenshaw Barrow at Harvard University.
