Mamie Lou Yancey (Mary Louisa Yancey) became the wife of Charles H. Phinizy, Sr., an Augusta businessman, and the mother of Miss Mary Lou Phinizy, an Augusta civic leader.
The collection consists of a photocopy of a chatty and newsy letter written while Mamie Lou Yancey was attending a school for girls in Athens in 1865.
