|Abstract:||The collection consists of an account book of Joel T. Coney of Laurens County, Georgia from 1870-1872. It includes sharecropping contracts signed by Coney and those men who sharecropped his land, some of whom were freedmen. The contracts outline the conditions of work required for the men and what Conley will supply. The book mainly consists of accounts which list the debits and credits of the sharecroppers including foodstuffs and tobacco with occasional listings of cash loans. Each entry includes the date, the item, and the cost. Also included are end of the year tallies.|
