|Abstract:||The collection consists mainly of papers of Margaret Rhind Stokes of Augusta, then Louisville, Georgia from 1824-1899. Includes personal letters from her father James Rhind while he was working in Savannah, Georgia; sisters Liza Rose and Susan Barrett; her brother William Montgomery Rhind while serving (1861) in the Confederate States of America Army in Virginia and letters from her husband, William Anthony Stokes, while serving (1864-1865) during the Atlanta Campaign and then in Savannah. Also includes several letters from Brig. Gen. William M. Gardner to William Montogmery Rhind regarding his placement in a particular company; and a letter from her cousin, Alfred M. Hobby in San Antonio (Tex.), which discusses in detail life in the southwest.|
