Biographical/Historical Note

W.E. Terrell likely stands for the initials of Dr. William Terrell, who was born in Fairfax County, Virginia, in 1778 and shortly thereafter moved to Georgia. Although he practiced medicine in rural Georgia, he also served as an elected official. Between 1817 and 1821, Terrell served as a Democratic-Republican U.S. Congressman. After his death on July 4, 1855, a county in south Georgia was named after him in his honor.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of a silver box marked "W.E. Terrell." The item dates from the 19th century and is a memento from the Dawson family.
