Abstract:The collection consists of one patent for land, dated October 1776, presented by John Vanderen and signed by John Penn of Pennsylvania. It relates to land in Westmoreland County and the manor of Pittsburgh. This partially printed document on vellum also retains the elaborate colonial seal of Pennsylvania.

Biographical/Historical Note

John Vanderen is the ancestor of the Jones-DeRenne family of Georgia and this document is among the earliest items directly attributable to him.
