Abstract:The collection consists of papers of the Noble Jones family of Savannah, Georgia from 1754-1838. Bound in a volume, the papers contain legal instruments including wills and indentures, business records, slave sales and dispensations, and correspondence documenting land transactions, legal matters, political matters, and family concerns. The materials document three generations of the Jones family including Noble Jones, Noble Wymberly Jones, and George Jones.

Biographical/Historical Note

Noble Jones (1702-1775), surveyor, planter, and politician, born in Surrey, England. His son, Noble Wymberly Jones (1723-1805), politician and physician, born in Lambeth, England. Both emigrated to the United States in 1733 as part of the original settlement of Georgia. Noble Wymberly Jones' son, George Jones (1766-1838), physician and politician, born in Savannah, Georgia.
