The Uga mascot line started in 1956 when Sonny Seiler brought a bulldog that was given to him as a wedding present to Georgia's first home game of the season. Coach Wally Butts asked permission to use the dog as Georgia's mascot and Seiler's college friend, Billy Young, suggested the name Uga. Traditionally, Uga is present at every UGA home football game, many away games and other University-related functions and sports events. To date, there have been nine Bulldogs named Uga. These dogs are descended from the original Uga and have frequently been the son of their predecessor. (Wikipedia)
