Verna Jewel Winters was born in 1899 to a farming family in Bradley, Georgia. She attended the State Normal School in Athens, Georgia for three years and graduated on May 26, 1920. Her photograph album illustrates how much she enjoyed her time at the school. After graduation, Verna married and taught school in Alabama. Unfortunately, her life was cut short by her sudden death in 1924 of dehydration from morning sickness.
The collection includes a photo album (circa 1918-1920) from her time as a student at the State Normal School in Athens, Georgia. There also is a short biography of Verna Jewel Winters and list of captions for the scrapbook written by her nephew, Daniel Bing.
